The Club
Since 1996 the KW-Cambridge Bassmasters have been meeting, fishing,
telling tall tales and just generally having fun. Our members come from
all walks of life and interact regularly at monthly meetings, outdoor
conservation projects, youth events and club sponsored fishing
tournaments.
We meet monthly for general meetings, every third Wednesday of the
month, from September to May, where we go over the general operation of
the club, are entertained by guest speakers or tackle demonstrations, or
other items of interest to the membership. Check out our calendar of
events for more information about our next scheduled meeting
Our club is affiliated with the
B.A.S.S. organization out of Montgomery,
Alabama. We also are affiliated with the
Ontario B.A.S.S. Federation
(OBF), which is the parent organization of all the Ontario fishing clubs
belonging to B.A.S.S. The membership in our club costs $60.00 per year,
which includes the $22.00 USD we send down to the U.S. for the
Federation dues. The OBF also has yearly dues of $10.00, which comes out
of your membership dues. New members are always welcome – for more
detailed information feel free to contact any of our club
executive or attend a club
meeting.
We start fishing in May, when pike season opens, and hold approx. 3 – 4
pike tournaments throughout May and June. And at the end of June, bass
fishing takes center stage! We do about 9-12 bass tournaments through
October. All of our tournaments are of the “Catch and Release” format;
that is to say that we make every effort to keep our fish alive during
the tournament, and release all fish back to their lake of origin after
the weights are recorded.
We have our annual banquet every February, where we have a dinner as a
group, and award our Club Champion and Angler-of-the-Year trophies from
the previous year. It’s quite a nice evening with most of the guys
talking about the memories of the past year and guys who are looking
forward to next.
One special tournament we hold every year is the Husband and Wife
tournament in July. This is the most anticipated tournament of the year.
It’s a special day when the girls come out “to play with the guys in the
their boats”.
One important point is that you don’t need a boat to become a member in
our Club. Our tournaments are done by a blind draw, with boaters in one
hat, and non-boaters in the other. These two anglers then become the
team for this tournament only, with the combined total weight belonging
to both anglers. Points are awarded based on where the team finishes in
the standings. These points are tabulated for both anglers from this
tournament, and carried on to the end of the year. Our
Angler-of-the-Year is based on the member with the highest point total
for that year’s tournaments.
